Before they can begin trailing,
bloodhounds need to be trained to scent discriminate and trail.

Handlers work with bloodhounds at least three times a week for several hours a day, until the dogs can successfully trail a particular human scent with the scent trail at least 12 hours old and two miles long.

When $5,000 is raised for the CPEA-JRC Bloodhound Network, part is used to acquire and deliver an AKC Bloodhound for the state where the funds were raised. The remainder is divided between CPEA & JRC to maintain their national prevention & photo distribution programs available on their respective websites: www.find-missing-children.org and http://www.jimmyryce.org/.

One of our donations, "Hope," was presented in March 2004 to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Department in North Carolina.
